Dendrites are the physical site of the majority of synaptic contacts and play a central role in shaping cellular input-output transformations. Cortical dendrites are longer in humans than in other species, but their functional properties remain unknown. Combining dendritic patch-clamp recordings with two-photon imaging and biophysical modeling, I investigate how the size of human neurons impacts synaptic integration and the computations performed by individual neurons.
